FSC certified windows

01 July 2023 |

Win2Trade offers manufactured windows and doors made from either FSC-certified or PEFC-certified meranti, pine or oak.

What does FSC mean?

FSC timber refers to timber sourced from forests managed in accordance with the principles and criteria developed by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) – the International Council on Forest Stewardship. The FSC is a non-profit organisation that promotes responsible forest management worldwide.

FSC certification is awarded to forests that meet specific criteria for sustainable forest management, protection of biodiversity, respect for workers’ and local community rights, and compliance with local and international environmental laws. Wood from such forests is marked with the FSC label, which informs consumers that the product is made from wood that has been responsibly sourced.

FSC wood provides an alternative to unsustainably harvested wood, which can lead to deforestation, environmental degradation and human rights violations. Choosing FSC wood helps support sustainable forest management and environmental protection.

What is the difference between FSC and PEFC?

FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) are two leading forest and timber certification schemes that promote sustainable forest management. Here are the main differences between them:

  1. Geographical coverage: the FSC is an international certification system with a worldwide presence, covering forests from different countries and regions. PEFC, on the other hand, is more focused at the national or regional level, so that there are many independent PEFC schemes in different countries.
  2. Criteria and standards: both FSC and PEFC have their own criteria and standards for sustainable forest management. FSC has more stringent requirements, especially for the protection of biodiversity, workers’ rights and the rights of local communities. PEFC has more flexible standards to adapt to different regional contexts.
  3. Certification system: FSC is recognised as a more independent and trusted certification system. FSC uses external certification bodies that are independent of stakeholders such as companies or governments.
  4. Visibility and recognition: FSC was the first organisation to certify, thus it is more recognised by consumers and has greater public awareness.  Its logo is more commonly seen on products, especially in the furniture and construction industry. PEFC is less recognisable and may be less common in the market.

It is worth noting that both schemes aim to promote sustainable forest management and environmental protection.

If you need your windows and doors to be made from either FSC-certified or PEFC-certified timber then please declare your need when making your enquiry.
